What to Expect from a physical exam
Physical exams measure and record weight and blood pressure. Dr. Terzian will also listen to your heart and lungs and examine your ears, nose, and throat. In some cases, he will also test your hearing and check your vision. Other standard checks conducted during a physical exam include:
- Checking for any signs of abdominal tenderness
- Looking at posture, joint flexibility, spinal alignment, and mobility
- Testing neurological functions, such as reflexes, coordination, and strength
- Evaluating and discussing your medical history and chronic conditions
- Reviewing your intake of medications
In some cases, your physical exam may also include the following:
- Lab work for urinalysis, hemoglobin count, and cholesterol
- Diagnostic tests, such as x-rays or electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Screenings for cancer, such as a colonoscopy or a mammogram
- A referral to a specialist for certain conditions or symptoms
